LEPIDOPHIS
Creative intention
The name Lepidophis combines Lepidoptera—the order that includes butterflies—with Ophis, the Greek word for serpent. Two creatures with opposing visual languages are brought into a single form: delicate wings meet a sinuous body and predatory instinct. Orange pigments across the face evoke the structure of butterfly wings, while the serpent surrounding the body creates a presence that feels both protective and threatening. Lace becomes a delicate boundary between tenderness and danger, between what draws the eye closer and what warns it to remain at a distance. Through Lepidophis, PAFX explores the beauty of opposing forces. Rather than placing the butterfly and serpent on separate sides, the work allows them to coexist as inseparable parts of a new identity—delicate without being fragile, dangerous yet deeply alluring.
Project narrative
Lepidophis is an experimental makeup project by PAFX that brings together the delicacy of a butterfly and the enigmatic instinct of a serpent. Orange pigments, lace, and sculptural creature forms create a surreal portrait where beauty and danger coexist.
PAFX Role
PAFX developed the creative concept, visual direction, and makeup design for Lepidophis. The studio established a visual language uniting serpent and butterfly imagery, shaping the color palette, facial composition, lace elements, and sculptural details into a cohesive identity.

Process
The project began by studying the contrasting visual characteristics of serpents and butterflies. PAFX developed a palette of orange, red, and metallic tones, translating butterfly-wing structures into makeup shapes across the face and body. Lace and sculptural elements were then introduced to connect the subject with the serpent imagery, completing a portrait that feels both delicate and dangerous.
